Bomgar Orange Back in the Heart of Honduras

honduras-2-1.jpgA few weeks back I shared the story of my latest visit to Honduras in April and the wonderful opportunity we had to serve. I have recently returned from another amazing experience to this fascinating country and its people, thanks to the sponsorship of Frontline Missions (fmusa.org) and the generosity of Bomgar’s own employees, combining medical aid and construction work to bring some much needed help to children in poverty and those with special needs in La Ceiba, Honduras.

honduras-2-4.jpgOur self-funded thirteen-person team, were able to use almost seven thousand dollars donated by thirty-eight Bomgar employees to buy the supplies we needed to accomplish our mission.  Six of the team members spent time building a new room at the Jungle School. This school is run by Helping Honduras Kids which provides education, food, and medical assistance to children living in poverty, trying to give this generation a way to improve their future.  Our team poured concrete, laid cinder blocks, constructed a bamboo house for their Indian Day celebration, and still found time to help teach English classes and bond with the children.

honduras-2-7.jpgWhile that group worked at the Jungle School, our therapy team comprised of physical, occupational, and speech therapists along with an autism/behavior specialist and special education teacher worked at the Emilia D'Cuire special education school, the only special needs school in Honduras. With help from Atlanta Prosthetics and Orthotics, we were able to bring foot/leg braces to those children needing them. Additionally, we brought used custom wheelchairs, crutches, hand splints, feeding aids, positioning devices, tools, and more. Our team also provided educational training to the staff and parents of children with special needs, giving them the tools and knowledge to provide for these wonderful children once we left.

honduras-2-5.jpgBomgar donations were used to buy a stove, a refrigerator, a freezer, beds, and yes some toilets for the Helping Honduras Kids Orphanage.  We also used some of the money for shoes, baby formula, bottles, a baby sling, and food for children with very limited resources. We hiked to various villages and delivered the much needed items.  We even took some Bomgar water bottles and umbrellas which were a big hit!  But the smiles on the children's faces as they slipped a pair of shoes on their bare feet were indescribable.

We are so thankful for our time with these amazing children, care givers and families in Honduras.  The return continues to be far greater than the investment.  There’s something truly special about being part of a company that gives you the freedom to invest in the lives of others and whose employees help provide the funds to do so.  In a couple of month, I have the privilege to start planning next year’s trips!
