Preparing for Bomgar 10.4.9

Bomgar 10.4.9 is ready for release, but before you upgrade take a moment to review the following preparation notes to ensure a smooth installation.

If you have deployed Jump Clients for unattended access to 64-bit versions of either Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, then there’s a little bit of prep work that you will need to perform before you install an update on your Bomgar Box.  One registry setting should be added to each of the remote systems that match this criteria.  This will ensure that the Jump Clients on these 64-bit versions of Windows XP or Server 2003 update themselves properly after upgrading your Bomgar software.  After you’ve performed this prep work you will be ready to install Bomgar 10.4.9.

For a smooth upgrade process, add or update the following registry value to each remote 64-bit XP and Server 2003 machine that has a Jump Client installed:

Key:  [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Environment]
Value Type:  Expandable string (REG_EXPAND_SZ)
Value Name:
TMP
Value Data:  use the %ALLUSERSPROFILE% system variable, or any directory with write access for all users

Note that this registry value may already exist on some target systems.  If this is the case, it is recommended that you make a copy of the entire Environment key prior to making this change.

Once this registry value has been added to the target machines, you can install any available Bomgar updates on your appliance.  Note that this prep work will no longer be necessary once you have upgraded to Bomgar 10.4.9 or later.

Did you know that Bomgar introduced native 64-bit Windows support in version 10.4?  Previous versions of Bomgar can still be used to support 64-bit versions of Windows thanks to the Windows on Windows subsystem.  To ensure the best experience for you and the customers that you support remotely, Bomgar recommends using its native 64-bit clients whenever you support a 64-bit system.
