Pure Technology and Bomgar Support North Pole ‘Arctic Mummy’ Expedition

Pure Technology, one of the UK’s leading independent IT communications service and support companies, and Bomgar, a worldwide leader in enterprise remote support solutions, are partnering to assist Simply Stuck company director Jo Wichcombe in her 350 mile traverse across extreme polar territory.  Starting from Resolute Bay in Nunavut and finishing at the magnetic North Pole, Jo will be attempting to win the prestigious Wedgewood Blue Ice Trophy.

Throughout the polar race, which begins on 4th April, Pure Technology will provide its pureXtreme package - a Panasonic Toughbook CF 30, pureXtreme laptop case, Iridium 9555 Satellite Phone (the only one that works in the Arctic), solar roll charger and 24/7 support - to help Jo maintain her daily blog and communicate with the world throughout the race to the pole.  Using Bomgar’s remote support technology, Pure Technology will be able to remotely access and monitor the performance of Jo’s IT communications equipment, which will operate in extreme Arctic temperatures of -40 degrees. With Bomgar, Pure Technology support representatives in both London and Australia will also be able to jointly view and control Jo’s screen to collaboratively resolve any technology issues that may arise.

Jo Winchcombe, Simply Stuck director comments: “Pure Technology has been extremely professional from the moment I made contact with the company’s managing director, Danny Long.  Throughout my polar race, the Pure Technology team in both London and Australia will help me maintain my daily blog, communicate with friends and family and assist in navigating what will be desolate and unforgiving polar territory, fraught with dangers and challenges such as polar bears, hypothermia, snow blindness and frostbite.  I’m extremely impressed with the equipment that has been provided to support me on my expedition and I have been genuinely bowled over by Pure Technology’s level of support to date and interest.  I am also aware of Pure’s experience in supporting intrepid explorers such as Bear Grylls, when he navigated the North West Passage last year, so I know this kit works and with Pure Technology my communications will be in safe hands.”

Danny Long, managing director of Pure Technology explains: “Our pureXtreme technology and support package enables us to push the boundaries for communications delivery, supporting those who wish to tackle adventures in extreme conditions, whether that be frozen environments such as the Arctic or in the intense heat of the Sahara. We are delighted to be working with Jo to help her achieve her dream of reaching the North Pole, and to be working with Bomgar to remotely support Jo as if we’re stood next to her.”

Echoing this, Stuart Facey, general manager, EMEA at Bomgar adds: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Pure Technology to support Jo during her extraordinary Arctic adventure.  When people depend on technology to survive extreme situations in isolated locations, the ability to access and fix that technology from a remote site is imperative. The unmatched pureXtreme technology is a key to Jo’s success, and we’re proud that Pure Technology has chosen to partner with Bomgar to ensure the optimal performance of its solutions.”

Jo is undertaking her polar race to raise money and awareness of the Jamie G Sporting Trust, a charity that supports setting up sports clubs for children, and the Trussell trust, a charity which sets up food banks for impoverished children throughout the UK.
