Cost of Cybersecurity: Breach prevention, low-level attacks and easy solutions
When it comes to cybersecurity, we’ve already established everyone is confused. New breaches show up in the news every week. Credit card information and intellectual property gets swiped. Money is lost, directly or indirectly. Everyone knows, at least on some level, that securing data is crucial, yet we routinely see businesses failing to follow tried-and-true breach prevention strategies.
There’s a shift underway, and the idea is moving from away breach prevention, where we’ve gone about as far as we can go, towards having a secure breach, a sort of yes-they-got-in-but-let’s-limit-the-damage approach. It makes sense in theory. “There are two types of companies,” the saying goes, “those that have been hacked and those that don’t know they’ve been hacked.”
Unfortunately, many businesses are still lagging behind. They need to get in place the proven, simple, hardening techniques before moving onto more advanced protection.
