BYOD in Healthcare: A CIO's Story

The move toward bring-your-own-device (BYOD) enterprise mobility at the Green Clinic, in Ruston, La., was a series of step changes, according to Jason Thomas, CIO and IT director.

The Green Clinic is a physician-owned healthcare enterprise that employs 450 people in its hospital, clinic, and six satellite locations, according to Thomas. The 50 doctors who practice there are all owners, so "I have 50 bosses," said Thomas.

Initially, the goal was to move doctors, nurses, and clinicians from pen-and-paper to electronic medical records (EMR).

The effort began with beefing up the healthcare organization's wireless network and issuing 150 wireless laptops. This worked for about a year-and-a-half, according to Thomas, who spoke about his experiences at an event hosted by Dell Software in San Francisco on April 24. Read more.
