Bomgar Introduces Expanded Remote Support Capabilities for Android
JACKSON, MS - June 23, 2011 - Bomgar, the worldwide leader in secure, appliance-based remote support solutions, today announced new support capabilities for Android mobile devices. The expanded Bomgar Android Client allows IT support representatives to securely support end-users with smartphones or tablets powered by Google’s market-leading Android platform. The new capabilities let Bomgar customers broaden their mobile support offerings to include Android devices, in addition to the iPhones and iPads, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices they can support today using Bomgar.
Designed to serve Bomgar customers in two different capacities, the Bomgar Android Client is tailored for businesses and enterprises as well as mobile device manufacturers and carriers. The Bomgar Android Client for businesses allows IT support to securely chat with, transfer files to and from, and view the system information of end-users with an Android smartphone or tablet. These capabilities are available to any IT department supporting either internal employees or external customers using Android. Support can be provided from a Windows, Linux or Mac system, as well as from an iPad or iPad2, to the Android smartphone or tablet. The Bomgar Android Client for device manufacturers and carriers includes the same features plus screen sharing capabilities that allow remote viewing and control of an Android device. These features are available to the mobile device manufacturers or wireless carriers that develop and control the management features of the particular device.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker (March 29, 2011), smartphone vendors will ship more than 450 million smartphones in 2011 compared to the 303.4 million units shipped in 2010. The report forecasts that Android is poised to take over as the leading smartphone operating system in 2011 after racing into the number 2 position in 2010. As Android devices flood the market, more and more enterprise IT departments are either deploying them or being forced to support personal devices that employees or customers are using for work. The new Bomgar Android client increases the productivity of support reps and raises customer satisfaction by making it easier for IT to securely configure and support these Android devices.
“Today’s employees and customers want to use their smartphone or tablet of choice to conduct business, challenging IT teams to support an ever-increasing variety of mobile devices and platforms,” said Troy Harrison, VP of product management at Bomgar. “Providing the ability to support almost any type of mobile device, including Android, from a single remote support solution is part of Bomgar’s continuing commitment to offer the most robust multi-platform solutions for remote support.”
