The ability to troubleshoot a remote desktop from your iPhone probably isn’t something you do every day, but it can make you more look like a hero in an emergency.

Even if when there’s no emergency, controlling a computer from your iPhone can certainly make your life as a technician easier. Nobody wants to sit around to wait for a program to install or to tell the computer to reboot after updates. It’s so much better to get the updates installing, throw your phone into your pocket, and check on the system while you’re out.

At Bomgar, we’re working continually to improve our Mobile Representative Consoles for both iOS and Android. In this post, I’d like to highlight some upcoming improvements.

The iOS Mobile Representative Console will soon support 3D Touch on iPhone 6S/6S+ devices.

We caught up with one of the developers on the project to grab some behind-the-scenes footage demonstrating how it works.

Using 3D Touch to Start a Remote Support Session

3D Touch will make you more efficient when doing remote support from you iPhone. Here are the highlights.

Start Remote Support Sessions Faster

Pressing in on the Bomgar App Icon reveals a menu with two options to begin a remote support session

  • Generate a Session Key - Session keys are for starting ad hoc remote support sessions with an end users. Just email the key or communicate it over the phone.
  • Jump Item List - Jump Items are remote computers you can access without assistance from an end user. You'll see the top three computers you access most frequently.

Troubleshoot Multiple Remote PCs Easier

With 3D Touch, the Bomgar support queue will have peek/pop capability. Press on a session to preview it (peek). Press harder to return to the session (pop). You can also swipe up to transfer, hold, or end the session.

The preview capability is a huge timesaver when you're switching between remote computers.

Gestures Enhanced by 3D Touch

Bomgar already supported multiple gestures on the iPhone. With the upcoming 3D Touch support, you'll get another one. Pressing on the remote desktop imitates right-click behavior.

3D Touch for iPhone 6S/6S+ Is Coming Soon

As you can see from the video, we're already well on our way to full 3D Touch support for iPhone 6S/6S+. QA has to do their magic, still, so keep an eye out for it in one of our upcoming product releases.
