Static-sensitive Devices

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage electronic components. To prevent damage to any printed circuit boards, it is important to handle them very carefully. The following measures are generally sufficient to protect your equipment from ESD damage.

CAUTION

• Be sure that the appliance is properly grounded to the chassis ground through the AC power cord or enclosure frame.
• Touch a grounded metal object before removing a hard drive module from the antistatic bag.
• Make sure to replace with the same type of hard drive.

Hard Disk Drive Field Replacement

The Bomgar B300™ uses a RAID 5 configuration across three hard drives. This allows you to remove a failed hard drive without any interruption and swap it with this field replacement. The appliance will detect when you remove the failed drive and will automatically configure and image the blank unit upon insertion.

Single Hard Disk Failure Replacement Procedure

CAUTION

• Removal of any other disks during this procedure or during the rebuild will result in system failure.
• Hard disks are static-sensitive devices. Be sure to make proper use of the wrist strap included in the disk FRU kit.

1. First remove the front bezel to expose the hard disks. On a failed hard disk, the bottom LED will be red and the Bomgar B300's™ audible alarm will sound.
    
2. Press the red release button beside the failed disk's LEDs on the failed disk to unlatch the handle.
    
3. Swing the handle fully out to disengage the disk.
    
4. Slide the disk halfway out of the disk bay and wait for it to spin down. Allow 10-20 seconds before removing the disk from the disk bay.
    
5. With the system still running, insert the replacement disk into the empty disk bay and slide it straight back. Firmly push the disk until the handle begins to swing inwards.
    
6. Swing the handle toward the appliance. Continue pushing the handle until you feel it lock into place.
    
7. Press firmly on both the left and right edges of the disk with both thumbs. Applying this pressure ensures that the disk is fully engaged, even if no movement of the disk is felt.;

After replacing the failed disk, the green and red LEDs on the new disk will blink and the audible alarm is silenced, indicating that the spare drive is rebuilding. This could take several hours, depending on the amount of data and the system load at the time. Once the rebuild is complete, the red LED will turn off. The front bezel can then be replaced.

Before returning the defective RAID disk pack, locate the RMA Request form and follow the return instructions.
