Mac Remote Access Q&A

1. From what platforms can I provide remote support?

The Bomgar™ representative client runs on:
• Mac 10.4 - Snow Leopard
• SUSE Enterprise Desktop
• Windows 2000 - Win 7 or Server 2003

2. What platforms can I support with Bomgar?

Your customer's computer can run:

• SUSE, Ubuntu, RedHat, or Fedora versions of Linux
• Windows 95 - Win 7 or Server 2003 & 2008
• Windows Mobile 5 or 6
• BlackBerry 4.2.2 and up

3. Will Bomgar's representative client work on earlier versions of Mac?

Not at this time. Attempting to connect to a remote desktop from a computer running Mac 10.3 or earlier results in an error message. If you would like to be able to use Bomgar from a computer running 10.3 or earlier, please send in a feature request to feedback@bomgar.com.

4. Can I offer cross-platform remote support with the Bomgar Box?

Yes. IT helpdesk representatives can virtually control:

• Windows from Mac OS X
• Mac from Mac OS X

5. How do customers initiate a session?

Typically, your customer will request support by clicking a link on your public support page. This will begin the download of the customer client application (~ 1 MB ). Once downloaded,  a Finder window with instructions will automatically open.

Then your customer simply clicks the icon on his or her desktop to begin a Bomgar™ session with you.

6. How does unattended control of Mac differ from unattended control of Windows?

Control Unattended Windows PCs Within a Separate Network
Installing a Jumpoint™ on a device within a separate network enables you to push a remote support session to any unattended Windows system within the network (requires administrative privileges on the network).

Control Unattended Systems Outside the Network
Install a Jump™ client on the Windows, Mac, or Linux machine to gain anytime control. Jump remote access software clients can be installed via standard remote support session or can be mass-deployed via email for the end-user to install.
