Linux Remote Access Q&A
1. From what platforms can I provide remote support?
The Bomgar™ representative client runs on:
- SUSE Enterprise Desktop
- Windows 2000-Vista or Server 2003
- Mac 10.4 - 10.5
2. What platforms can I support with Bomgar?
Your customer's computer can run:
- SUSE, Ubuntu, RedHat, or Fedora versions of Linux
- Windows 95 - Vista or Server 2003
- Mac 10.3.9 - 10.5
- Windows Mobile 5 or 6
3. Will Bomgar's representative and customer clients work on other Linux distros?
Yes. Initial testing has shown that both Bomgar's representative and customer clients are stable on other distros.
While Bomgar's representative client will function on other distros, only SUSE Enterprise Desktop 10 has been fully tested to run the Bomgar™ representative client. It is therefore the only Linux distribution officially supported by Bomgar™ for use in the IT helpdesk.
Also, while one can gain access to various distros with Bomgar™, thorough testing has only been performed on SUSE, RedHat, Fedora and Ubuntu. Bomgar™ therefore only officially supports remote control of SUSE, RedHat, Fedora and Ubuntu.
You are welcome to use this trial to test Bomgar's compatibility with other distros. However, our official support plan only covers those distros listed above.
4. Can I offer cross-platform remote support with the Bomgar Box?
Yes. IT helpdesk representatives can virtually control:
• Windows from SUSE
• Mac from SUSE
• Linux from SUSE
• Mobile from SUSE |

5. How do customers initiate a session?
Typically, your customer will request support by clicking a link on your public support page. This will begin the download of the customer client application (<400K), and a web page with instructions will automatically open.

Then your customer simply clicks the icon on his or her desktop to begin a Bomgar™ session with you. |

6. How does unattended control of Linux differ from unattended control of Windows?
Control Unattended Windows PCs Within Your Network For scheduled troubleshooting, a support rep with administrative privileges can push a support session to a Windows system within the LAN with Bomgar's Jump™ functionality.
Control Unattended Windows PCs Within a Separate Network Installing a Jumpoint™ on a device within a separate network enables you to push a virtual support session to any unattended Windows system within the network (requires administrative privileges on the network).
Control Unattended Systems Outside the Network Install a Jump™ client on the Windows, Mac, or Linux machine to gain anytime control. Jump™ clients can be installed via standard virtual support session or can be mass-deployed via email for the end-user to install.
