Going Green – Bomgar’s remote desktop control software can help, but it’s just the beginning. Find out what Coca Cola, Sony Pictures and Microsoft are doing.
Going green has a lot of advantages: it can save money, it’s better for the planet, and it enables people to live and work in a healthier environment. It’s also a very important corporate PR point - a company’s green policies can be a pivotal element in attracting, or deflecting, customers, investors, and employees. How can IT departments go green beyond virtualizing and consolidating servers? Screen savers, turning off monitors (and computers) when not in use, reducing travel with telecommuting and work-from-home programs, virtualizing call centers and help desk support (Bomgar’s remote desktop control software is the answer to that one, and it will also help cut travel costs for support staff), e-cycling and turning down the air conditioning just a notch (it’s often freezing in offices anyway) are some good places to start. But going green can get a lot more sophisticated: Many companies are using power measurement and management tools to help find and stop the bleeding. To find out more about what you can do, and what companies like Microsoft, Coca Cola and Sony Pictures are doing, read 10 Ideas to Power Up Your Green IT Agenda.

Support virtualization can help increase efficiency and cut costs in troubled times, but that’s not the only move CIOs should make.
These are hard times economically. CFOs and CEOs are calling for cutbacks and any department asking for a budget increase is going to have a very tough sell. Perhaps if there is one advantage to all this mess, it’s the potential for increasing efficiency. And it’s as true for IT departments as any other. In fact, now is the perfect time for CIOs to talk to CEOs about making some changes. Adopting support virtualization at the help desk, for example, would be a great move. It would increase efficiency so more traffic could be handled with the same number of support staff, the company would realize significant savings on Bomgar’s unique licensing model, the help desk would offer better service so customer satisfaction would get a boost, as would customer retention, and the satisfied customers become a selling point used to increase the customer base. All in all, a win-win situation. And, with Bomgar, those aren’t the only advantages. But now that you have the CEO’s attention, there are a few other things you might also want to bring up. Read 5 Requests to Make to Your CEO Now to find out more. Times like these present the perfect opportunity for CIOs and IT or help desk managers to really leave their mark, become a more integrated part of the team, and score a few brownie points.

The Web, like the open seas of international waters, is dangerous territory and no amount of policing is going to protect you. But you can protect your assets with Bomgar.
While there are several elements behind Bomgar’s expansion, we’re now ranked by Inc. 500 as the sixth Fastest Growing Computer and Electronics Company in America, one of the most significant in this day and age is the unparalleled security offered by Bomgar’s appliance-based remote control software. As Robin Gareiss, executive vice president and senior founding partner of Nemertes Research, wrote in a recent article, about Bomgar, in NetworkWorld.com: “We have found that remote control or remote access via the Web frequently is the origin of security breaches.” SaaS can’t solve that problem - if company data is on the Web, it’s fair game. Well, perhaps not fair game, but game nevertheless.
With Bomgar remote control software, no data is ever routed through a third party. As long as your own internal security measures up, you’re safe. According to Gareiss, “nearly 90% of companies identify themselves as virtual workplaces, meaning they employ people who work remotely from their supervisors and/or workgroups full or part-time.” And analysts and experts across the board expect this trend to continue. In fact, a company’s competitive edge depends on it. Shouldn’t you be checking out Bomgar? It will take one very big worry off your plate.

Cutting a major source of efficiency isn’t the best way to go when money gets tight. But what are your options?
Despite the fact that IT departments can create more efficient work environments and provide pivotal analyses that enable managers to make wise business decisions doesn’t, for some reason, protect IT budgets from being among the first to get cut when things are tough. It doesn’t make any more sense than cutting marketing budgets when the sales are down. Reducing your efforts to let people know you’re there and have something to sell is the last thing you want to do. However, with IT, as with marketing, you may want to review exactly how you’re spending your dollars and find out how you can really make your money work for you. So, what are your other options? Read Managing IT in a downturn: Beyond cost cutting. And check out Bomgar’s virtual support appliance - reduced costs, increased efficiency and a boost in customer and employee satisfaction is hard to beat.
