Bomgar Gives pcAnywhere Users Free Evaluation of Secure Remote Support Solution
Appliance-based Provider Extending Offer Following Symantec’s Admission that its Solution Was Breached
January 31, 2012JACKSON, MS - January 31, 2012 - Bomgar, the worldwide leader in secure, enterprise remote support solutions announced today that it is offering its software at no charge to users affected by the Symantec pcAnywhere security breach. Although Symantec now claims its solution is safe to use following its suggestion that users disable pcAnywhere, Bomgar is offering free licenses for sixty day evaluations to any current Symantec customer seeking a secure remote IT support solution.
On January 25, 2012 Symantec acknowledged that pcAnywhere's source code was stolen in 2006, putting users of all its versions at an increased risk of losing data to hackers. The company has since determined that the most current version of its solution is safe; however, the breach has shed light on the security concerns of legacy remote support systems. Many of these solutions are not designed to adequately support today's complex IT environments and also lack authentication and audit controls that can help prevent against security breaches.
Due to Bomgar's unique appliance-based design, customers keep all of their remote support session video recordings, data and audit logs on-premise, eliminating the security risks of SaaS-based remote access tools that pass sensitive data through a third-party server. Bomgar also integrates with identity management solutions, such as LDAP, Active Directory and RADIUS, to ensure only authorized users can remotely access computers, devices and unattended systems.
Discussing the issue Bomgar's founder and CEO Joel Bomgar said: "Symantec's announcement of their source code leak is very unfortunate for both their customers and Symantec itself. While we commend Symantec for working quickly to resolve the issue, it underscores the need for secure remote support solutions in the enterprise. It is our hope that, by offering Bomgar at no charge to pcAnywhere customers, these users will enjoy a more secure, reliable solution."
Bomgar is the only remote support solution to achieve the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 2 certification. The company meets the stringent requirements set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for both hardware and software. For enterprises handling secure data and facing compliance regulations, such as SOX, HIPAA and PCI-DSS, Bomgar is the number one choice to remotely support employees and customers around the world.
